Horse riding

With 1,700 bridleways and 37 byways, horse riding in Dorset is a widely appreciated and established activity. There are many local riding schools and stables available to be enjoyed by horse riders of all abilities.  The stables, bridleways and byways can be found on the iCoast map

What do I need?

• A riding hat – In order to go horse riding you will need a proper riding hat.  Riding schools often lend or rent one.
• High visibility clothing – Make sure you can be seen by other road users.
• Body protectors and correct footwear.
• Become familiar with the ‘Rules about animals’ section of The Highway Code.

Horse riding on the beach

There are some beaches in Dorset which you are allowed to ride horses on. Check the links from the iCoast map for their location and the restrictions of riding on them. In some cases  a permit is needed.
